I'm a big recycler, but sometimes I get confused on exactly what can go into our roadside recycling bins, what we can return and what we can't do anything with!

I'm trying to get more and more items into the recycle bin, but sometimes the kids dump stuff into the garbage, and when it's filled, I dont want to dig thru! BUT, I do have to say they are getting excited about recycling, as they are learning so much about it in school!

Before becoming pregnant, I was working towards greening my life. Now that I'm a mom, I don't have time to look for the greenest products, or find ways of being green. I'm all about reducing and reusing, so to me that means buying less. After the baby, we've been buying a whole lot of stuff that is not green, although much of it can be reused. I'm also finding it hard to finding good reliable cleaning green cleaning products. Baking soda and vinegar doesn't always cut it.

HODGEPODGESPV said...

i try not to buy plastic bottles but when we are out and i am out of water, i will buy some. but i will reuse them as long as i can and then make sure they end up in our recycling bin.

My hardship is just that I'm resistant (lazy!) to change. I've gotten a bunch of reusable bags for groceries, but keep forgetting to return them to the car. Of the last 50 times I've been to the grocery store, I probably only had them 5 times. That's a lot of plastic!

Recycling is complicated. First its a lifestyle choice. Have to congratulate yourself because its become automatic to sort items into recycle bin. I did go to the township website and read what they will accept and how we have to sort them.
Then, it still isn't right. During pickup they carefully removed the pool chemical containers and left them on the lawn. The bottles are clearly marked as being recyclable. The one contained basically baking soda except all they saw was pool store markings and rejected it like it contained toxic chemicals. they also won't recycle anything that doesn't have a 'neck'. So regardless the 1 or 2 recycling mark on the bottom, anything with straight sides is rejected.
It seems that the recycling should be the easier part of being green.

Our biggest hardship is what to do about the water situation, we all love bottled water and don't want to add to the landfills any further, yet our own tap water is lousy. I'm just not sure what is the cheapest, safest, most environmentally friendly way to solve our water situation...

My big thing is "reduce" the first of the 3 R's, and I think the most important one. Reducing the number of things we purchase, reducing the number of plastic bags, reducing the consumption of water and electricity. Things are there for our convenience, we can certainly do without them, but it makes our lives easier with them around. However, the more convenient something is, the more we waste.

I have a small house and an even smaller kitchen with virtually no cabinets, so it's very hard to find space to save recycling items. My city just incorporated no-sort recyclig which helps immensely.

It's hard for me when I see that the school district doesn't have a vegetarian option in the schools and I need to send my son with his own lunches and it's sometimes hard to find green options when it comes to making sure his lunch is wrapped correctly.

With three preschool children in our family, it's often frustrating to find Green practices that don't take up too much of our precious energy! But slowly we're getting there--and hopefully modeling for our kids that it's something we care about.

My biggest concern/issue is just finding products that are green that work really well.
Thank you for the chance

I am old and it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks, but my kids are really pushing me.

I started cloth diapering my 2nd child (she's 8 now) and had a heck of a time figuring out the best system to use to make it simple, convenient and economical. Luckily, the internet was a wealth of information and I stuck with it and cloth diapered my 3rd child too. :)

Being green seems to involve more time, effort and funds than I have sometimes, but I keep trying.

I wonder if my recycling is actually being recycled at the other end!

Our car broke down and we ended up having to go buy a new one so now we have 410 a month payments, we had not had before, the car we got however is better on gas and such, But we have noticed we have to buy more in bulk and we garden now as well to help even out the grocery bill.

This might sound a little different, but one of the biggest problems I'm having is disposing of used kitty litter. I live in the city so I have to bag it and put it in a dumpster, so while I do use litter made from recycled material, such as newspaper, I'm not sure how to dispose of it in a green way that won't smell up the neighborhood.

I have lots of 'green' ideas to truly make our world a better place but I need to find financial support and creative assistance to make these become reality. It gets over-whelming at times on where to start - performing an online search comes up with thousands of possibilities. Thanks for offering this contest and book!

It's hard for me to recycle- there's no recycling in our area so I have to drive my recyclables to the next town over 30 miles away! Kind of defeats the purpose...
